Hi, my name is Safiya and I am currently enrolled in the BA Digital Media course at the University of Leeds.
As an artistic and design student, I naturally have interest in the arts and entertainment industry. Alongside producing promotional content such as moving images, web and print adverts, I create simpler, handmade artworks with no requirement of technology or AI involvement, physical arts. This include s paintings and drawings I've done out of my own interest and in my own time. Other pieces like my mehndi work I also create and utilise as a profitable hobby for myself.
Throughout my artistic career, I've portrayed powerful messages. This art piece consists of water colour and oil paints displaying a young girl victim of forced marriage. With every inch of this piece well though out and deliberate, I symbolised control and ownership using masculine hands, contrasting a delicate face with deep eyes portraying a stir of emotions and resentment, but also safety, security, lack of self. All things that can be found in marriage, specifically forced marriage.
As a freelance henna artist, I proivde services offering temporary tattoos, typically for traditional and cultural celerbrations.
Promoting my small business, I run and maintain my own social media account. My work also features on my personal social media accounts gaining inner and outer cirle audiences.
